Weeks 1–2
Pain
Calm the pain down.
Hands-on work and joint mobilization get the joint moving with less irritation. Bracing or taping takes strain off while the flare settles.
What We Treat
Somebody told you it’s wear and tear, then handed you a prescription. The arthritis is real. How much it takes from you is still up for negotiation.

Why It Happens
Osteoarthritis means cartilage on a joint surface has thinned and the joint has grown sensitive to load. Rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis work differently: the immune system drives the inflammation, and the medication side belongs to your physician. What every type shares is what happens next. The joint stiffens. The muscle around it weakens. Load starts landing on the surfaces least able to take it.
That loop is why things keep getting worse without much help from the arthritis itself. It hurts, so you move less. Moving less costs you strength and removes the motion that keeps cartilage fed and joint fluid circulating. So the next flare arrives after a smaller day. Nobody ever treated this as a strength and motion problem, and strength and motion are the parts of your pain that genuinely change.
The Honest Truth
Nobody regrets starting too early.
How We Fix It
Every plan has an endpoint. Here’s what the four phases look like for arthritis.
Weeks 1–2
Pain
Hands-on work and joint mobilization get the joint moving with less irritation. Bracing or taping takes strain off while the flare settles.
Weeks 2–6
Prime
Motion comes back before load goes up, so the joint stops grinding through the same restricted arc on every rep.
Weeks 6–10
Perform
Strength for the muscles that unload the joint: quads and glutes for knees and hips, grip and forearm for hands, progressed at a pace the joint tolerates.
Weeks 10+
Prevent
Stairs, floors, the garden, whatever your day asks, tested under real load, plus the maintenance program you keep. That’s the endpoint, not just another appointment.
Questions, Answered
Usually not. A film tells you what the joint looks like, and it is a poor predictor of how much it hurts or how well you move. Plenty of joints with visible wear feel fine, and plenty of painful joints look mild on paper. What we measure instead is what the joint does: motion, strength, tolerance to load, and how your day loads it. Those are the parts that change.
This is the fear that costs people the most, and the evidence runs the other way. Cartilage has no blood supply of its own, so it depends on movement for nourishment, and strong muscle is what keeps load off the sore surface. Sitting still protects a joint today and weakens it for next year. The work does have to be dosed correctly, which is what an evaluation and a licensed physical therapist are for.
We do not regrow cartilage, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What does change is the share of your pain that comes from stiffness, weak muscle, and load landing in the wrong place, which is often most of it. That is why two people with nearly identical x-rays live completely different lives. Better motion and stronger support around the joint show up in what you can do.
Your plan has an endpoint. The evaluation sets which phase you start in and what earns the next one, and the phases run Pain, Prime, Perform, then Prevent. Because arthritis is something you manage for the long run, that last phase carries the most weight: you leave with a program you can keep doing on your own, and you know exactly what to do when a flare shows up.
Medicare is accepted here, and Louisiana direct access means no physician referral is needed to be evaluated. Before your first visit we run a benefits check and tell you what your plan covers, with a Good Faith Estimate if you are paying yourself. We also accept Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, TRICARE, TriWest and Peoples Health.
