Balance therapy in Slidell.

You’ve started touching the wall on the way down the hall. Balance therapy trains the whole system that keeps you upright: strength, reaction time, and confidence on your feet.

What It Is

Balance isn’t luck. It’s trainable.

Staying upright is three systems reporting at once: your inner ear, your eyes, and the sensors in your feet, ankles, and hips. Your brain compares the three and corrects before you ever notice. When one of them goes quiet or slow, you feel it as unsteadiness.

Balance therapy trains that system on purpose. We test where it is actually failing: hip and ankle strength, how fast you can catch a stumble, how you walk when you turn your head or carry a bag. Then we load the weak part and make the drills harder as you earn it.

What it is not: a list of exercises handed to you on paper. It is also not vestibular therapy. If the room spins or tilts when you roll over, that is your inner ear, and it has its own treatment. Some people need work on both, and an evaluation that looks for the cause tells us which.

Questions, Answered

Balance therapy, no mystery.

No. Every drill starts inside what you can already do, and it gets harder only once you’ve earned it. A rail, a wall, or a hand is within reach the whole time, and a licensed physical therapist stays with you. Feeling a little wobbly is part of the training. Falling is not.

They overlap, and they are not the same. Vestibular therapy treats the inner ear system: the spinning, the room tilting when you roll over, eyes that will not settle. Balance therapy trains the whole postural system: strength, reaction time, and confidence on your feet. Your evaluation tells us whether you need one, the other, or some of both.

This is the best time. Reaching for the wall, taking the stairs one at a time, planning your route around handrails: that is your body telling you the margin is getting thin. You have spent years driving everyone else to their appointments. Nobody regrets starting too early.

Clothes you can move in, and the shoes you actually walk in every day. If you use a cane or a walker, bring it. We want to see how you really move, not a borrowed version of it.

No. Louisiana is a direct access state, so you can start physical therapy here without a physician referral. We run a benefits check before your first visit so you know what your plan covers, and a Good Faith Estimate is available if you are paying out of pocket. Call us at (985) 326-7260.
